Happy Easter?!

Easter is such a strange mix of pagan and christian religion, that it really makes no sense at all, so if you do not celebrate Easter, please don't ask me to break it down for you. I go eat Easter dinner with my family. That's really as deep as I'd like to go.

That is actually a lot more spiritual than what I'm doing, but we all have our own "obligations", or we (read you) get to do what we/you want.

Alas I am an infidel about to burn apparently. Sunny lunch with the fam and an easter egg hunt for the kiddywinks and prolly a load of champers shits and giggles! Have a good one!

baino, I don't have any idea what most of that means, but it sounds fun! Thanks.

I was just asking myself this morning, right after another coughing fit, why I bother celebrating Easter. I'm not particularly religious. My dad had given up being a pastor long before I was born. And all I recall of Easter was painting eggs and then having to look for them later. Oh, and being the kid who only found two and having to give ONE of them to the kid that found none, while everyone else had bulging bags of goodies...I'm not bitter...

kj, back athcha!

theweyrd1, LOL, You don't sound bitter. That reminds me of when I turned 7. There was a big bunch of balloons at my party. One of them was this amazing blue, and all the others were, ya know, balloon colored. My mom was giving away one balloon to every kid as they left, and she gave away my favorite to some boy I didn't even really know. I cried and cried. It was the biggest birthday travesty I could imagine! I'm almost over it.

My credo on Easter is really quite simple: No basket full of candy = no holiday meal.

Same theme, though - rebirth.

I spent the day painting in my basement. But we will do an egg hunt tomorrow, so I must get soem creidt for that, right?

heartinsanfrancisco, A well thought out policy!

As a child we celebrated the holy week but it was so unlike the celebration here. For one thing, we fasted and did not speak unnecessarily and when we did we spoke softly or even whispered. We prayed a lot and reflected on our lives. It was a very pious and sacred celebration. No we did not have Easter Bunnies or eggs. On Glorious Sunday we had a meal preceded by prayer and it was a healthy meal but nothing ostentatious. We did a lot of charity, even as children. I think the business establishments and Hallmark makes these holidays very commercial and the American consumers are just happy to spend their money or use their credit cards. What a strange celebration indeed because the spirituality is not there, mostly a sectarian celebration, therefore meaningless.
