A Short Rant!

My 3 year old Vaio died in December, and I bought a new one. The new one came with Vista software. A LOT of the software I own will not load onto the new laptop. It's all compatible with Windows98, 2000, and XP, but not Vista. Why on EARTH would Bill Gates do this to me? I'm sure he doesn't get that money doesn't grow on trees, but really...am I expected to go buy all new peripherals now? A new all-in-one, because HP software won't load properly, a new GPS, new photo-shop, new website software, new Microsoft office, new palm pilot, I mean...WTF?

I spent a couple of hours a few nights ago, locating and sifting through old photos, to go with my April Fools/Move to California post, and I found 'em. Pictures of Johnny, of the truck all packed up, the scenery along the way...and Vista won't let me use my scanner!

Suck It Bill Gates!!!!

Ohhhhhhh Vista. I mean, my mac went through a phase where it would shut down at random, but when it felt like it, it would work wonders!

Huh. I still feel like I lose.

I have a Vaio also...and when I was talked into loading a anti-virus program that was the VISTA compatible version it ATE the bootlog for my XP pro OS. I used my retail XP pro to repair this only to find out that it loaded a separate bootlog and now I have no use of my hardware, unless I find full applications and load them. The RECOVERY disks that I made when I first got my VAIO will basically reformat the hard drive and reload the factory settings, but at the cost of losing all my files and applications loaded AFTER I originally got the Vaio. Moral to the story...back up your WHOLE hard drive on a separate external hard drive or suffer major losses of files, software and much time. Pretty much this happens with ALL brands of computers if they come with previously installed OS and proprietary software. By the way, the original preloaded software is still on my hard drive, it's just that the "NEW" retail version of my OS doesn't speak the same computer language for accessing it and thus I can't use the F keys, etc. Major pain in the neck. I'll have to off load all my files and lose many applications after I finish my taxes...sigh.

Oh NO! I am tossing around the idea of a new Vaio myself... now you've scared me! I heard it would be a good thing to get Vista - but now I'm not so sure. Man alive, what a bummer.

Share your pain Red! I have this theory that Microsoft use the general public for their Beta testing! I'm not game to move to Vista until I can afford all the new gizmos and gadgets that go with it . . I'll test it at work first!(they can pay for the damage it causes)

theweyrd1, You're quite welcome!

tsduff, Be afraid, be very afraid!

kj, Thanks for your sympathy.

Baino, Good thinking. Unfortunately, I didn't have much of a choice. :(

I think you should just show up at his house and don't stop knocking until he comes out and you give him hell!

jay, Hi, thanks for stopping by. I wonder if I could get him to pay for my airline ticket to Seattle, so I could do that!

I got Vista onmy laptop and haven't really had a problem with it, but my son requested XP on the new desktop and I also pais extra to get XP on a new ultralight because I've read that Vista slows it down. Wish Vista would just go away.

cit, Yes...Vista should die, immediately!
